All-new Sky Original drama Munich Games is coming to Sky Atlantic in September and NOW

Upcoming Sky Original drama Munich gamesis coming to Sky Atlantic and NOW in September.

Starring Seyneb Saleh, Yousef Sweid, Sebastian Rudolph and Dov Glickman, this fast-paced, high-stakes political thriller comes from the author of the global TV hit Fauda and tells the story of two agents – one Israeli, one German – who must work together to stop a terrorist attack 50 years after the Munich massacre.

The year is 2022, and as a sign of peace and respect for the victims of the 1972 terrorist attack, a football friendly between an Israeli team and a German team is planned. Police and secret services from all sides are on high alert to ensure the security of the event.

However, when Oren Simon, a Berlin-based Mossad agent, intercepts a message on a dark web forum just days before the game, he works with Maria Köhler, a German State Criminal Police Officer (LKA) with Lebanese roots, to make sure that history does not repeat itself.

Addressing issues such as geopolitics, information manipulation and the rising threat of extremism around the world, the six-part Sky Germany series brings cinema format to the small screen as part of Sky’s growing roster of compelling and groundbreaking international dramas.

Comprising a brilliant multinational creative team in front of and behind the camera, Munich Games was shot in German, Hebrew, Arabic and English. It was written by Michal Aviram (Fauda), directed by Philipp Kadelbach (We children from Bahnhof Zoo, Perfume) and written by Aviram and Martin Behnke (Alexanderplatz in Berlin). It is a co-production of Amusement Park Film, CBS Studios and Sky Studios.

The series is produced by Amelie von Kienlin. Executive Producers are Amusement Park Film’s Daniel Brühl and Malte Grunert and CBS Studios’ Meghan Lyvers; as well as Michal Aviram, Philipp Kadelbach, alongside Frank Jastfelder and Julia Jaensch for Sky Studios. Martin Behnke is co-executive producer.

The production of Munich Games is funded by the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, the FilmFernsehFonds Bayern (FFF), the German Motion Picture Fund (GMPF) and the Czech Film Fund.

The series will be available in all Sky markets including the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Paramount Global Content Distribution owns the international distribution rights for the series outside of the Sky markets.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the tragic events that inspired the series, Sky will also air a 90-minute documentary, ‘1972 – Munich’s Black September’, which details the devastating effects of the 1972 Olympics. Coming to Sky documentaries on May 5thth September.
